Distribui-se do Panamá ao sudeste do Brasil em águas costeiras próximas a desembocadura de rios, mas também até 70m de profundidade. Encontrada em fundos de lama ou lama e areia, alimenta-se de crustáceos pelágicos e peixes pequenos. Chega a atingir 1 m de comprimento (Menezes & Figueiredo, 1980; Soares et al.; 2008).

Sulcus acusticus: position median, orientation horizontal, opening pseudo-ostial, morphology heterosulcoid, colliculum heteromorphic, ostium oval, cauda strongly curved tubular.
